You placed your heart on a gilded platter,
Served with love and passion, with hope and joy
You gave your all, nothing less would do.
It was great for a while, and the plating sufficient
To keep two hearts beating towards a future
Of destiny and purpose, a dream coming true
You gave even more, till there was nothing to give.
‘Is this my best for you?’ A tiny voice spoke,
And drew your attention to the beforehand.
‘I placed the real gold in the corner of your heart.
I’d give you my all, nothing less would do.’
Where do you turn; to whom can you go,
As heartbreak follows this promise of love
The destruction of hopes, the crushing of dreams
The anguish of having nothing left to give.
‘Turn to Me,’ the tiny voice calls
Drawing attention to the forthcoming,
‘I have plans for your future, hope’s not in vain
Precious and beautiful it’s yet to come
I give you my all, there’s everything to give’
